Hinepūkohurangi Day is of Tūhoe and Ngāti Awa descent. Her secondary schooling was at Whakatane High School, a Phase 3 Te Kotahitanga school and was Head Girl in 2008. She successfully completed a Bachelor of Māori and Pacific Development in 2012 with a double major in Te Reo Māori and Māori and Pacific Development at the University of Waikato. In April 2013 she graduated with a BA Honours in Te Reo Māori also from the University of Waikato. Hinepūkohurangi joins the Te Kotahitanga team as a Research Assistant.
